Winter recreation in the Bereg

The inclement winter cannot stop you from exploring the beauty and values of the Bereg region.

You can get to know the food specialties of Bereg and get an insight on the mysteries of fishing and hunting in snow-covered, silent surroundings, accompanied with heart-warming palinka.

 

Day 1: Arriving to Vásárosnamény, after checking in to your accommodation you can take a sightseeing tour with the help of the Pocket Guide, the “mobile phone tour guide” which can be rented at the Tourinform office. Among other things you can visit the typical buildings, monuments and statues of the city. Than visit the Museum of Bereg, which was moved into the Tomcsányi Castle, where you can view not only the nationally known iron stove and pig iron collection, but also the embroidery and folk weave of Bereg, and the Easter eggs of Bereg. In the afternoon you can visit the Hunting Exhibition, which is unique in the eastern part of the country, where the fair game and the ones which cannot be hunted and their natural habitat is presented as well from the 5 continents, with Hungary and the Bereg emphasized. As the door is opened the birds awaken along with the rising sun, and passing by them we can hear their singing, just as other animals placed in the exhibition sound with their own voice. You can get informed about the occurrence of the displayed game, its habitat, and of course about the circumstances of its kill in an interactive way. As the closure of the day a delicious “game feast” is waiting for you at your accommodation, in the Hunor Hotel and Restaurant.

 

Day 2: 

After breakfast you can choose from many facultative programs. One of Bereg’s virtues is the Bockerek forest, which has got a quite rich wildlife, with its red deer, fallow deer and boar stocks. Between the 1st of November and the 28th of February you can participate in Tar hunting, in the afternoon hours hare and pheasant hunting, but at night you might even hunt for boars. Those who prefer the more “relaxed” adventures can try ice fishing on the Keskeny, which is one of the remains of the Dead Tisza.

But if you would rather get to know our cultural values, than visit Tákos, where the reformed church, which is also called the “Barefooted Notre Dame”, with a wattle-and-daub and wooden coffered ceiling is not to be missed, and then visit the church in Csaroda, which is also famous for its smiling saints. If you would like to learn more about the gastronomy of this region than you should visit the Panyolai Szilvórium, where you can taste special palinkas and local flavors. After this it feels good to relax in the Szilva Thermal and Wellness, where you can try the plum infusion as well in the “desiccative”. As the closure of the day you can have oven-baked dishes accompanied with a heart-warming palinka in one of the 25 best taverns of the country, the Winkler House.

 

Day 3:

After breakfast go to Baktalórántháza, where you can view the recently opened Dégenfeld Castle Museum. Here you can visit exhibitions of local history, ethnography and natural sciences in an interactive way. Take a walk in the garden of the castle, and then have lunch in the Fenyves Hotel and Conference Centre. Before the departure you can hike in the forest of Baktalórántháza.

 

If you arrive in December you can attend the Bustle of Advent, where concerts, performances and an advent fair await the visitors.
