Renewal in the Awakening Nature

Spring

3 days/ 2 nights

At spring nature awakens, and so are the people. Meadows blossom, trees sprout, the sky is resplendent in new colors, while new flavors appear on the table.

This is the best time for recreation, getting new strength. If you want to be the part of these wonders, than visit one of the most beautiful areas of the Upper Tisza region, Bereg.

Day 1

Arrive to Vásárosnamény in the morning hours, get on your bicycles, and take a tour to Tivadar on the renewed levee crest where you can ride surrounded by the wonderful nature.  Arriving to Tivadar you can take a relaxing walk on the coast of Tisza, and then you can have homemade dishes baked in a furnace in the Danó Porta, such as bean soup with cabbage or apple strudel, accompanied with a little palinka. In the afternoon you can learn more about the area’s natural, rural and cultural values in the House of Nature Visitor’s Centre in Kisar. Visit the Petőfi-tree in Nagyar, and the Luby Castle, which is famous for its antique rose garden. In the castle you can test your knowledge and skills with different interactive games. Than you can visit the palinka distiller of the Panyolai Szilvórium, where you can taste the plum and fruit palinka specialties of outstanding quality, and get an insight on the process of the palinka distilling. Besides the tasting a delicious dinner is waiting for you in the Elixir Tasting House. (Prior arrangement is needed.) After this, cycle back to Vásárosnamény through Olcsvaapáti while reminiscing on the ferry. After cycling it will feel good to have a relaxing evening bath in the Szilva Thermal and Wellness, where you can try the plum infusion as well in the “desiccative”.

Day 2

After breakfast you can take the water in Gergelyiugornya, and with a catamaran – which is for rent in the Vízipocok Kikötő – you can have an eventful travel all the way to Tivadar, and then on Tivadar get on bicycles – which is for rent in the Danó Porta – and visit Tarpa, where the only remaining dry mill of the northern region beyond the Tisza is. Do not miss the Tarpa House of Palinka, where you can taste palinkas of protected origin and special cheeses. View the plum tree plantation in the garden, and have a lunch of healthy dishes made out of local ingredients that match the palinka. Explore the two natural treasures of the Bereg with the help of tour guides; The Báb Lake and the Nyíres Lake, which are the remains of the Ice Age. Arriving back to Tarpa pick up your bicycles and ride back to Vásárosnamény.

Day 3

After breakfast a sightseeing tour takes place in Vásárosnamény with the help of the Pocket Guide, the “mobile phone tour guide” which you can rent at the Tourinform office. You can visit the Museum of Bereg, which has moved to the Tomcsányi Castle, where you can view not only the nationally known iron stove and pig iron collection, but also the embroidery and folk weave of Bereg, and Easter eggs of Bereg as well.
